The Carson City Host Lions Club is pleased to announce that Oriah Land, the daughter of Shaona Land, has won the local competition in the Lions International Peace Poster Contest.
The Peace Poster Contest is an international contest sponsored by Lions International that encourages children, ages 11 to 13, to creatively express what peace means to them. This year’s theme was “Peace Without Limits.”
Ms. Land received a $50 award and will move up to the Nevada District level for further competition. If she wins, she’ll move up to the international competition.
Oriah is 12 years old and is a student at Eagle Valley Middle School. In describing what peace means to her, she said “Everyone should be in harmony with each other.” Her poster depicted peace on an infinity continuum, with a deep sea diver on one end and an astronaut on the other.
Larissa Nelson, the daughter of Mazzerick and Amber Nelson, won second place and a $25 award. Larissa is also 12 and a student at Eagle Valley Middle School. Her poster featured the world with a peace symbol superimposed and surrounded by stick people holding hands continuously around the world.
The Carson City Host Lions partnered with the Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada and Eagle Valley Middle School. Both organizations provided supplies and guidance from art teachers to interested students. Posters entered into the local contest sponsored by the Carson City Host Lions can be viewed at the Carson City Library until November 25th, 2024.
Starting November 25th, Ms. Land’s poster may be viewed at the Nevada Artists’ Association Gallery along with other winners from Lions clubs throughout Nevada and the eastern Sierra of California, as part of the Lions District 46 competition. The winner of the District-wide competition will win $125.00 and will move on to the International competition.
The 2024 Carson City Host Lions Kids Fishing Day at Baily Pond in Fuji Park, taking place on Saturday, May 4th from 9:00AM to 1:00PM, invites kids under 12 and their families to a free community event focused on fishing and conservation. Volunteers will be on hand to assist kids with fishing and answer any questions. While bringing your own rod and reel is encouraged, a limited supply will be available for those under 12 who need them. Participants 12 and over must have a valid Nevada fishing license, with a two-fish limit per person. Prizes and concessions will be available!
The Carson City Host Lions Club announced that Samantha DeLallo is the 2023 Peace Poster Winner
The contest is an international contest that encourages children ages 11 to 13 to creatively express what peace means to them. This year’s theme was “Dare to Dream.”
DeLallo will receive a $50 award and will move up to the Nevada district level for further competition. If she wins there, she’ll move up to the international competition. Her poster used the peace symbol surrounding children of the world. She entered the contest through the Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada.
Athena Sandell from Carson City won second place and a $25 award. Sandell is a student at Eagle Valley Middle School. Her poster featured a young girl dreaming of becoming a ballerina. Delaney Feuling received an honorable mention and is also a student at Eagle Valley Middle School.
The international grand prize winner will receive a trip to an award ceremony where he/she will receive $5,000 and an award. Additional merit award winners will also be selected, and each will receive $500.
700 pounds of dungeness crab and 180 pounds of tri-tip beef were consumed by the 385 people who attended the 22nd Annual Crab Feed hosted by the Carson City Host Lions. The Carson City business community helped immensely with donations of raffle and silent auction items.

This year’s theme was “Lead with Compassion.” Ms. Tran received a $50 award and will move up to the Nevada District level for further competition. If she wins there, she’ll move up to the international competition.
Vanessa is a 12 year-old and is home-schooled. She said that “Peace means everybody gets along, and its all nice.”
Ryan Archer from Carson City won second place and a $25 award. Ryan entered the contest through the Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada. Cadence Schnaible won Honorable Mention for her poster featuring butterflies. There were eleven students who competed in the contest.

The Carson City Host Lions Club is pleased to announce the 2021 Peace Poster Contest winners. Cadence Schnaible, the daughter of Zachary and Shannon Schnaible, of Carson City has won the local competition. The Peace Poster Contest is an international contest that encourages children, ages 11 to 13, to creatively express what peace means to them. Ms. Schnaible will receive a $50 award and will move up to the Nevada District level for further competition. If she wins there, she’ll move up to the international competition. Cadence is an 11 year-old and attends Carson Middle School. She said that “Peace means we are all connected, no matter where in the world we are.”
Hailey Haase-Acks from Gardnerville won second place and a $25 award. Hailey entered the contest through the Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada. She is a twelve-year old attending Pau-Wa-Lu Middle School. Jaicielyn Ryan, Lucy Borse, Peyton Golden, Elisha Nolan, and Douglas Trujillo also competed in the contest.

Lions Clubs International is a global leader in community and humanitarian service. The International organization works to improve health and well-being, supports those in need through humanitarian services and grants that impact lives globally, and encourages peace and international understanding. Here in Carson City, the local club devotes its resources to vision preservation programs, supporting local charities, and providing youth services such as scholarships for Carson High seniors, Kids Fishing Day, and the Student Speaker Contest. The Carson City Host Lions White Cane Days 2021 will take place October 16th & October 17th. The Carson City Lions will be at the N. Carson Street SaveMart both days from 10am to 4pm. While there, the Lions will be promoting and raising funds for Clubs local eye care programs.
In addition to continually promoting awareness about local white cane traffic safety laws, the Carson City Lions raise funds to assist the blind and visually impaired in the community, collect used eyeglasses for those in need, and also provide eye exams and new glasse for local people who can afford them.
The Carson City Host Lions partner with FISH and Ron Wood Foundations who refer clients in need.
